ICETE Collaborates with ACTEA and Langham to Provide Training to 40 on Doctoral Research Supervision Practice

Immediately after the Association for Christian Theological Education in Africa (ACTEA) General Assembly, in Nairobi, Kenya, in late September, with financial support from the Langham Partnership, ICETE’s Doctoral Initiative Steering Committee offered training for faculty from across Africa on the supervision of doctoral students in their dissertation research and writing. Twenty-one participants had done prior work with two ICETE Academy courses on supervising doctoral students and spent a day and a half in groups discussing the course materials and sharing their experiences, and another 19 participated in a separate experience for those who had not yet take the ICETE Academy courses, exploring best practices in research supervision. It was an enthusiastic group and many expressed how helpful the training was for their work with graduate students. We are hoping this will be the beginning of additional training opportunities in different regions in Africa, led by experienced African faculty.

Some of the material covered in this training can be found in the Handbook for Supervisors of Doctoral Students in Evangelical Theological Institutions, available through Langham Literature.
